| Technical Porous Ceramics are solving many specialist process and product problems throughout industry. By using controlled variations in the size of pore and degree of porosity, industrial ceramics make an essential contribution in diverse fields, such as process filtration, gas turbine technology, industrial and domestic water treatment.
FFSL has vast experience in tackling specialist applications. A continuous appraisal of new and emerging materials and technologies allows us to offer the latest innovative technical solutions to unusual industrial issues. The expertise offered by our experienced team of ceramicists is second to none.

For many years, FFSL porous technical ceramicshave been used as piezometer tips. Being inert, ceramics can be buried in the earth without environmental concerns. This allows them to be left undisturbed in the ground for years to monitor soil moisture levels or allow water samples to be drawn for analysis.
Puremet is a unique ceramic formed as a reticulated irregular, three dimensional, open cell structure with a high average surface area. It is ideal as a catalyst, bio-mass support medium, or metal pour filter for the casting industry.
Porous ceramic tiles can be used in many powder handling situations. Controlled porosity of the ceramic material ensures an effective passage of air into the powder bed, thus transforming it into a continual state of fluidity.
The unique structure of FFSL porous products allows gases to pass through the ceramic, but not flames. Ceramic is non-combustible. Therefore, it will sustain a flame front while not being damaged by its presence. This feature makes it ideal as a battery flame arrester or vent.
The carefully controlled pore size of FFSL’s technical porous products allows their use in a wide range of instruments from the analysis of flue gases, to soil piezometers though to controlled air flow devices.
Closely controlled pore sizes and porosities make ceramic materials an ideal vehicle to carry volatile chemicals, natural oils or other liquids and release them over an extended period. They are currently used as carriers for air fresheners, pesticides and roller coating products. Ceramics can be impregnated for a slow release performance, or used to control the release of substances from a reservoir without the need for harmful propellants.
